ABOUT US
Formed over 25 years ago as a singing group meeting at the Palace Theatre in Newark, the Palace Singers has developed into a thriving community choir. With over 70 voices, the choir sings a wide variety of music and gives 3 to 4 concerts each year. The ability to read music is an advantage but not essential - all that's really required is a love of singing and a sense of fun!

The choir meets weekly on a Tuesday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm at St Giles Community Hall, Main Street, Balderton NG24 3NP.

Subscription for membership of the choir is £4 per session which can be paid half- termly or weekly (half-termly preferred!). This amount includes all music and refreshments during the rehearsal break.

The choir concert uniform is simple - a white blouse/shirt, black skirt/trousers. For the ladies, a flower (provided by the choir) and for the gentlemen a bow tie (any colour, provided by the singer). Some of the gentlemen also wear a coloured waistcoat.

Each year the choir chooses a local charity for which to raise funds. During the last six years the choir has raised over £11,000 for good causes, the most recent amount of £2,250 being donated to Newark Emmaus Trust, an independent charity based in Newark which provides accommodation with care, support and training for homeless young people.

Other charities supported so far have included Beaumond House Hospice Care, Sue's Place, Newark Community First Aid, Newark Stroke and Aphasia Society, LIncs and Nottingham Air Ambulance, Newark Women's Aid and Rumbles Café based at Sconce Park, Newark.

This season the choir is raising money for Newark Dementia Carers’ Group, a local volunteer-led group for the carers and former carers of people with dementia.,
